The wind and waves finally started to ease off yesterday afternoon which continued throughout the night, offering a much-needed break. We're now motoring directly towards Panama and aiming to be anchored by this evening. A good night's sleep will be very welcome.
This marks a significant milestone in our journey. Since leaving France on June 5th, we've logged an impressive 5,900 nautical miles (or 12,000 kilometers). Factoring in stopovers (4 days in the Canaries, 3 days in Cape Verde, and 4 days in Trinidad), our total sailing time comes to 37 days – and weve gone roughly a quarter of the way around the world!
We're more than halfway through this incredible trip, and we can't help but breathe a sigh of relief. Navigating the Atlantic hurricane season without incident has been a welcome accomplishment. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season unfolds.
The next hurdles involve getting measured for the Panama Canal and securing a transit slot. Hopefully, this process can be swift, allowing me to continue the journey without delay. There will also be a crew change as Craig unfortunately has run out of available time. Its been an absolute pleasure to have him onboad for this passage and even covid couldnt stop this little Kiwi battler! I will miss his company and camaraderie onboard Namarie.
As this is a sailing blog and not a canal blog, there will be a break in updates. We'll be back soon to share our experiences gearing up for our departure from Panama and continuing westward towards Tahiti!
